Our mother spent three weeks at the Watford Peace Hospice and was looked after so lovingly by the wonderful staff there who worked tirelessly to make sure she was happy, comfortable and peaceful. Not only did she have her own sparklingly clean ensuite room with french doors opening out onto a private patio, everyone from the nurses, doctors, in-house chef, social welfare team, receptionists, cleaners and volunteers treated her like their own family. Even when Lewis flew in from Portugal to spend a few days with Mum, there was a family ensuite room made available (free of charge) so that he was only a floor away from Mum. The care was second to none and everyone went beyond the call of duty to ensure Mum's every need was taken care of. The Peace Hospice fully lives up to it's name - the atmosphere is truly very peaceful - a home away from home. As a charity, it only gets 20% of funding from the Government and that is why we have chosen to support it so that other families can spend quality time with their loved ones in such a caring environment. In addition to the Peace Hospice team, Mum was also cared for by the wonderful palliative care team at Rennie Grove in St Albans - ladies, we cannot thank you enough for coming alongside us and supporting us in the way that you did. We could not have travelled this difficult path without you there to see us through it. The support did not stop there, the district nurses worked together with the Rennie Grove nurses to attend to mum everyday. Thank you for your kindness and the care that you showed to Mum, especially when we had to call you out in the early hours of the morning. There is more, the wonderful Marie Curie nurses and healthcare assistants came and set up camp with Mum for some nights so that we could sleep peacefully. Such a wonderful and indispensable charity. Thank you. And finally, the Heaven Scent care team - thank you for your love towards our Mum in her final days. To the GPs who visited Mum at home and acted swiftly to ensure that she had everything she needed, thank you.
